When we begin to collect art prints, it is natural to want the most exciting and captivating artwork and many of us look to surrealist art. The images produced by the modern movement, so different from the surrealist image, known as Abstract Expressionism also meet these demands. Its images and styles embraced and developed the themes of 20th-century European culture. In its own way, it influenced reactions and counter-reactions in movements as diverse as pop and psychedelic art. Some aboriginal art is similar in feel to abstract art, but carries very different priorities.

Famous artists like Willam de Kooning and Jackson Pollock were participants in this great movement. Pollock laid his canvases on the ground. He threw and splashed paint in whirling images, which have become icons of contemporary artwork. His paintings depict so much movement that the images were called active art. Another school of was called field painting. Field painters created large canvases containing very few blocks of color. Barnett Newman's beautiful images, along with Clyfford Still's and Mark Rothko's, are among the most famous field paintings. Traces of this kind of work can be seen in pop and psychedelic art as well as some aboriginal artists, even when it is sometimes a reaction against the expressionist movement.

If you are searching for beautiful prints that will endlessly captivate you and be sources of rich conversation and engagement, the images of the abstract movement are ideal. Like with surrealist art, these prints would provide endless sources of interest from one of the most interesting art movements. Don't forget to check out pop, aboriginal and psychedelic art as well!
