The serigraph is a popular printmaking art form, though its technical name can be confusing. The name simply refers to images produced by silk screen printing, and is composed of two words, seri, meaning silk, and graphos, meaning writing or drawing. This technique, then, is literally writing or drawing with silk!
When the industrial and commercial use of silk screen printing was borrowed for use in contemporary art,

serigraph was the name given to its images. There are in fact many types of this printmaking style, each using different techniques in the production of artistic prints. For example, a hand-separated silk screen differs from hand pulled. The former relies on multiple stencils drawn by hand on the silk screen, the later on applying the paint by hand. There is also a stochastic method, which uses a computer to distribute color. Finally, mixed-media techniques place color onto pre-made images.

Printmaking arts are complex and fascinating. Each of the techniques produces strikingly different artworks. Artists using the silk screen medium often produce their work in limited edition prints, each signed and numbered to ensure authenticity.
